Hi, I’m Emma May Lang.

Too often people doing incredible work fail to feel strong in their voice and have their story told. Let’s get personal. Let’s get heard.

I’m a seasoned strategic communications professional, who for better or worse, has had a weak spot for social justice. I’ve worked exclusively with social services, policy wonks, foundations, and hopefully in the future m/othering activists, who in their own way work towards a more caring, dare I say progressive, Australia.

Empowered mothering

I kicked off my professional life in Canberra with social services calling for policy change. This spanned energy affordability, gambling reform, charity regulation - coordinating conferences and receptions at Parliament, Old Parliament House, and drum roll, televised events at the National Press Club.

Wanting an excuse for lippy and heels, I then provided content marketing for Charities Aid Foundation in Sydney to grow corporate grants and charitable giving. I campaigned for #KidsOffNauru with ASRC and provided media, family and crisis comms for Anglicare aged care during Covid-19. Mandatory vax on.

Becoming a mother in 2021 and having our second in 2024, each week I’m inspired by the cohort of women and gender diverse activists who are reimagining m/othering and care work. Affecting 80% of women in Australia, how so overlooked? Matricentric-feminism - my rough takes at @mamay_kiss.

Weekly newsletter

A Sunday column to your inbox with the occasional hot take, but more likely, average musing from the week. Jotting-down the minefield of mothering. And reflecting on the social and economic blahs that get in its way (kill me now).

While I’m at it, you’ll receive the odd reflection on folk attempting to bring about policy and social change. We can all but try. If you’re into feminist mothers and strategic comms? This may just be your lucky day.
